Feminism is not to seek equality with men. It is not for women to be above men. Feminism is not to break away from your family because you are cowed by men. It is not to hate men and your husbands. Feminism is to promote the values inherent in women. It is to present women as the stronger sex and home builder. It is to encourage women to bring out their potentials, skills and be granted equal opportunity where religion, culture and tribe abhor such. Unfortunately, many women run themselves down by trying to be men. So long as you imitate another person, you cannot be number one.
The institution of marriage is very sacred in Africa. It is the foundation of the society. The family is the bedrock on which the society is built. It is very unfortunate that very few women, assisted by very few men are very anxious to alter the tenets of this sacred institution. These few people misinform the society on the roles of women, men and children in order to promote their personal interests. They use such tools as “equality”, “belonging to the kitchen” and other flimsy excuses to degrade the family and shy away from their divine functions and responsibilities.
Marriage is a vocation and the functions therein are equally divine. It is not for all. If you accept the call into it, you must be willing to abide by its laws and tenets. If you cannot do this and many other sacrifices, then you have no business in marriage. There is no law that says you must marry. There is no law in the country restricting any woman from being educated. There is no law in Nigeria preventing women from playing active partisan politics. There is no law that stops women from vying for any positions in the country. However, there is usually interference between taking these positions by women and their roles in other institutions where they belong. If the law of marriage institution interferes with your interest in politics; please chose one.
If your religious or cultural law interferes with your political ambition, you must manage it personally. We have had instances where people opt for other institutions for their personal needs. Why must you drag other people into your belief? I am sure over 90% of Nigerian women would love to obey, cook, serve their husbands and manage their homes. These do not stop them from attaining their social, academic, political and professional status. And there are some, who would regard cooking, house chores, child bearing and obedience to their husbands as tasking; and yet granted freedom from these, have not achieved same desired goal in life.
I know a female professor in a Nigerian foremost university who is also a feminist that refers to her husband as her master. She cooks, obeys and respects her husband and still carries out her other obligations un-interfered. I have heard a Nigerian female minister and an academic professor declare that she cooked for her husband and would not allow any house help to serve her husband. She still attained the height of her career and was respected all over the world. World female leaders and those vying to be one are not divorcees but are living happily with their husbands.
God is the foremost feminist. He empowered and promoted women right from the Garden of Eden. Women are more powerful even though they operate from the lower level. Some men erroneously refer to them as weaker sex. They are stronger sex. In most other cases, some men out of mere weakness think that they are stronger than women. Most women deliberately assume such status and through it overpower men.
Women always get what they want diplomatically. They need marriage more but convince men to feel that they need it more. They enjoy sex more but in most cases the convince men to satisfy them and sometimes pay for doing so. They have equal opportunities in different professions and ability to acquire wealth but lure men into believing that it is their responsibility to take care of them at all times and most men have taken it as a matter of right.
He promoted our mother Mary by giving him the opportunity to be the ark of salvation of mankind. The Blessed Virgin Mary was so humble and through that became the most popular, respected and honored woman in the world. God so much empowered women that the strongest of men usually fall under the control of women. All men should follow the footsteps of God. All women should emulate Mother Mary.
