Who says it is a man’s world? It is a woman’s world especially in this part of the world. The world is total meant for women to enjoy to the fullest. The men are just their slaves pretending to be masters. God felt the world is incomplete till he created woman. Man, only acquired wisdom through woman’s adventure and carelessness in the Garden of Eden. From this point, women have always pulled men through the nose.
At birth, a female is said to attract wealth to the family, (Nwanyi wu aku). From this point, women are given more attention than men. Girls get much more pocket money than boys from the parents. In spite of this, the boys still spend their meager amount on the girls.
At the ripe age, a man spends money, gift items and time wooing a woman who gives these as conditions to date him. When she finally agrees, she dictates the relationship and the man sustains the relationship materially and emotionally. Since this relationship is supposed to be mutual, you would ask yourself, what does a woman contribute materially and emotionally than to say, I agree. When the relationship is broken and you ask a woman what she loses, she would say ‘my body which I gave to him.’
During marriage, the man works hard, builds a house, furnishes it and starts looking for a woman to live with. The woman only prepares herself to live in this home. For a partnership, the man searches for a woman, and when he found one, kneels and begs her to marry him. He goes on to pay for her hand in marriage, foots the bill of the wedding and other expenses. If a woman wishes to contribute towards these, she would be reproached and taken for a fool and a loose girl. Those who do these therefore do them secretly. And yet during weddings, ladies would be full of smiles while men would look like ghost of themselves. Woman’s world!
Women usually say that their sacrifice to marriage is the change of name as if it will add anything to men’s pocket. Unfortunately, this “sacrifice” is not even total. Those whose maiden names carry some weight hardly drop them when going into marriages. Many also say they carry pregnancy for nine months making it look like bearing a bag of garri for that period. This is just a natural and divine assignment and not by physical power or strength given to all female mammals; human and animal alike. Despite the medical attention, many women still prefer other methods to natural child birth.
A man builds a home but the woman owns the home. Women can only provide things when men are totally or partially incapacitated. In this part of the world, the man provides food, pays children’s school fees, house rent, builds house, furnishes it and buys vehicles and property. The man buys the clothes for himself, the woman and children. When the woman does any of these, she does so to help the man and not as a responsibility of a life partner. In other cases, it is when the man is incapable or is no longer there.
Many women have the role of cooking, washing clothes, sweeping the house, bathing the kids and taking them to and from school. This is despite the presence of house helps and modern equipment for doing these. However, many of them are tired of doing these. They want to work and earn money so they can play the role of men too. Women say the children are men’s because they bear their names. Meanwhile they enjoy the children’s benefits more than men. The children bear the men’s name but the women bear their children’s pocket. Any man who thinks of divorce has alimony hanging on his neck; children or no children. That’s their pension. A woman’s world!
Women are given preferential treatment in the society. At a party, they are served first. In a bar and restaurant, their food and drinks are paid for by men. It is a taboo for them to buy drinks for men or take them out or woo them. Really a woman’s world! They receive favours more than men. They achieve where men fail yet they want equality and want to swap positions with men and of course men are encouraging and supporting them to do so.
All these revolve around sex, which is their charm over men. Women use this as a tool to enslave men. They use it as a condition for all of the above. This is the basic thing they offer. What else? As singles, men pay for sex and pretend they don’t. And women enjoy more and pretend they don’t. In commercial sex, women collect money from men saying that they are doing them a favour. In marriage, men pay for love making in one way or the other and yet are made to satisfying women. Let these be done otherwise if it is not a woman’s world.
Let the women totally take over the roles of men boldly if they feel it is not a woman’s world! Enough of this pretense!
