Unilag VC Receives Wonder Woman Award

The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Lagos (UNILAG), Professor Folasade Ogunsola, OON, FAS, has bagged the Wonder Woman Award of The Guardian Newspapers.

Professor Ogunsola was among seven other prominent women selected across different walks of life for the 2025 Wonder Women Awards (WWA), having pulled the highest number of votes in the Business of Academia and Learning category.

According to the initiator and co-creator of Guardian Women Festival, Anita Athena Ibru, the award was created as a platform to showcase and celebrate women making giant strides in their respective endeavor.

Speaking at the awards presentation ceremony which was held at Rutam House along the Apapa-Oshodi Expressway, Isolo, Lagos, Anita Athena Ibru who is also the Chief Strategy Officer (Global) of The Guardian newspaper, congratulated Professor Folasade Ogunsola alongside other awardees for their milestones and sterling record of service in their respective fields which made them deserving of the recognition.

She explained that The Guardian Women Festival and Wonder Women Awards aims to, showcase milestones of women despite all odds while also fostering a stronger synergy across the women community.

In her response, Professor Folasade Ogunsola described the Wonder Women Award as not only gratifying but also a clarion call to do more especially in shattering the glass ceilings, conquering barriers and providing leadership at various levels.

Speaking further, Prof. Ogunsola described the Wonder Women Award as a celebration of hard work and milestones recorded by women. “The gesture also marks an acknowledgment of the ongoing developmental strides in UNILAG despite the prevalent economy, a development which guarantees the attainment of the Future-Ready UNILAG thereby making us as a beckon of hope for a better future for tertiary education in Nigeria,” she said.
