The Igbo community in Lagos State has expresses profound gratitude to the Lagos State Government for the operational rail station on Festac-Mile 2 axis. This infrastructure development has brought immense relief to Ndigbo residents and business owners, saving time and reducing transportation costs.
The Chairman of the Igbo Day Heritage Celebration 2025, Apostle Patrick A Nwanze (Agu Anioma) stated this while answering questions from reporters ahead of the forth coming Igbo Heritage Day Celebration to be held later in the year. He applauded the governor’s commitment to enhancing the quality of life for all residents, particularly in areas with high Igbo populations. The rail station demonstrates the government’s dedication to progress and development.
Apostle Nwanze further stated that the Igbo Heritage Day Celebration will improve the economy of the state and create healthy relationship between Igbos and their host state. “The celebration will not only showcase Igbo cultures and traditional heritage but also enhance the cultures of their host communities in Lagos. It will promote the unity and mutual co-habitation between Ndigbo and Yorubas.”
Adding his voice, the Secretary of the organizing committee, Chief Emma Emeka Anyagwa said that the rail project will improve transportation, reduce congestion and promote economic development in Lagos. Moreover, it will connect major cities and has the potential to transform Nigeria’s economy, improve living standards and promote sustainable development.
The President of Ohaneze Ndigbo, Lagos State, High Chief Sunday Ossai extolled the Lagos State government in the effort it is making in building cordial relationship between Igbos and the indigene of Lagos State. The Igbo Day is an opportunity to enhance peace, love and unity within the state. He therefore called on the state government to continue to create a level playing ground for various Lagosians to develop the state through entrepreneurship, culture and traditional heritage.
The Igbo Heritage Day Celebration is a platform for economic empowerment and global recognition of Igbo culture, with participation from the host state government. It is a celebration of Igbo traditions, language, and identity. The event aligns with the broader goal of pre-Igbo culture, as seen in the upcoming Ndi-Igbo Worldwide Cultural Carnival 2025. Distinguished Igbos and Yorubas will be recognized and presented with awards for their contributions during the event.
