DR SAM AMADI: THE MAN WHO REFUSED TO BE STAINED BY NIGERIAN POLITICAL MUD

Nigeria political space is filled with all manners of corrupt practices. Many political leaders have stained their hands while running different political offices. Thus politics in Nigeria is referred to as a dirty game. In most cases, it is said that you cannot hold political position in Nigeria without engaging in one corrupt practice of the other. One man who has swan in the murky Nigeria political waters and came out unstained is Dr. Sam Amadi.

Dr Sam Amadi hails from Amafor Imerienwe in Ngor Okpala local government area of Imo State. He had his primary and secondary education in his community before advancing to the University of Calabar where he had an LLB and subsequently a BL from Nigerian Law School. He holds a doctoral degree of law from Harvard, LLM from Harvard Law School, MPA from Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government.

He was a Senior Counsel at Gani Fawehinmi Chambers from 1993-1995, and later an Associate with Olisa Agbakoba and Associates. He was also part of the Defence Counsel to Ken Saro-Wiwa, an author and environmentalist who was killed by the Nigerian military. In December 2010, Dr. Sam held the position of Special Adviser to the President of the Senate of Nigeria, Director of the Centre for Public Policy and Research in Lagos, Nigeria and Senior Legal Officer at The Human Rights Law Service in Nigeria.

Dr Sam is the former Chairman of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC). He was the lead Consultant, Strategic Engagement with Actors in the South West and Southeast Regions organized by the Partnership to Engage, Reform and Learn (PERL), a project of the UK Department for International Development (DFID). He was Chairman, Senate Technical Committee on Review of Competition and Consumer Protection Commission Bill February and Chairman, Senate Technical Committee on Review of Transportation Sector Reform Bill March.

He is a fellow of the Society of Project Management and Development Professionals International and also serves as a Member of Advisory Board.

Dr Amadi was a member of several boards including, UN’s Advisory Council of Global Electricity Initiative; Section on Public Interest and Development Law of the Nigerian Bar Association; Center for Law and Social Action (CLASA); and Maldova Foundation, a Washington-based policy Think Tank as well as on the Board of Directors of PUTTRU Technologies Limited. Dr Sam Amadi, a policy strategist and law, and governance expert, has chaired several Senate Technical Committees and Presidential Committees in Nigeria.

He is the Director, Abuja School of Social and Political Thoughts and a Visiting Professor at the Emerald Energy Institute, University of Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

He was Associate Professor and Head of Department of International Law and Jurisprudence at Baze University, Abuja.

Dr Sam is one of the young arrow heads that can redefine Nigeria through purposeful leadership. He has all it takes to take the country to greater heights armed with his high level of integrity and unquestionable honesty.
