From the vibrant streets of Ikorodu to dazzling stadiums worldwide, Asisat Oshoala has rewritten her name on gold in women football.

A trailblazer, an icon, and the undisputed Greatest African Footballer of All Time. Her journey is one of grit, glory, and game-changing moments that inspire millions.

She is 6 times African Player of the Year, (A record that cements her as Africa’s queen of the pitch), 4 times WAFCON Champion, (Leading Nigeria’s Super Falcons to continental dominance), 3 times La Liga, Copa de la Reina and Spanish Supercopa, (Conquering Spain with FC Barcelona).

Others are 2 times UEFA Women’s Champions League, (The first African woman to score in a final (2019) and win it (2021, 2023), 2 times Chinese League Golden Boot winner in 2017-, and one-time English FA Cup, (Making history with Arsenal in 2016).

Asisat was born on October 9, 1994, in Ikorodu, Lagos. She passed all odds from sneaking out to play football against her parents’ wishes to becoming a global superstar.  Her story is pure inspiration to other Nigerian girls. At the 2014 FIFA U-20 World Cup, she clinched the Golden Boot and Golden Ball, announcing her arrival. She became the first African woman to play in the Women’s Super League (Liverpool, 2015), won the BBC Women’s Footballer of the Year (2015), and claim the Spanish Pichichi award in 2022 with 20 goals in 19 games.

Her 117 goals in 162 matches for Barcelona made her their fourth-highest scorer in the professional era. In 2024, she joined Bay FC in the NWSL, scoring their first-ever goal.

She is empowering young African girls through her Asisat Oshoala Foundation and Football4Girls tournament. She has also become a model to many African girls through her success, resilience, achievements and courage.
