African Player of the Year, Ademola Lookman visits Gov. Sanwo-Olu

Nigeria and Atalanta forward Ademola Lookman has won the 2024 Confederation of African Football (CAF) Men’s Player of the Year.

Lookman scored a hat trick in the 2023/24 Europa League final to secure the Serie A club’s first-ever European trophy and only the second major title in its 117-year history. The 27-year-old striker produced 17 goals and 10 assists in 45 games across all competitions for Atalanta in the 2023-24 season.

The governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu received Ademola Lookman at Lagos House, Marina.  Lookman was accompanied by his father and the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Grassroots Sports Development, Mr. Adeboye Anthony Adeyinka. The highlight of the visit was the formal presentation of the prestigious CAF award to Governor Sanwo-Olu, marking a proud moment for Lagos and Nigeria’s sporting community.

Governor Sanwo-Olu congratulated Lookman on his historic achievement and praised his outstanding performance on the international stage, especially his recent heroics in the UEFA Europa League final where he scored a hat trick to secure Atalanta’s first European title.

The governor described Lookman’s success as an inspiration to millions of young Nigerians and reaffirmed Lagos State’s commitment to investing in grassroots sports development to nurture future champions.
